Preparation work for the highly anticipated Borders Explorer Specials have this week got underway, as Churnet Valley Railway volunteers and contractors have started vegetation clearance. Track inspections will continue over the comings weeks all in readiness for the first trips.

As the next chance to support the Reconnect Leek project that will see the railway extend into Leek, the Churnet Valley Railway is running the BORDERS EXPLORER – a journey covering every inch of the CVR current rail network that will include the first public journeys on the newly installed Leek stub, and the first public services on the Stoke branch towards Endon since 1956!

These specials are due to depart from Froghall station on Sunday 5th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April with four departures each day. Pre-booking is highly recommended as theses services are already proving popular, and the proceeds from each day will all be going towards the £1.6 million project to return trains to the Staffordshire Moorlands largest market town of Leek for the first time
since 1970.
