Can you help with our Living History Program ?

We are putting together a series of living history interviews with all people connected with the railway and surrounding area. Sadly we may have left this too late, however we are determined to track down people and their respective stories to get these recorded for future generations.

So what are we looking for ? Did you travel on any part of the Churnet Valley Line in the days of steam? Perhaps you used it to go to school or commute to work. Maybe you remember the sand trains ? You might have worked at the Oakamoor Quarry ?

Did a parent work for the railway company ? Did you work in one of the Thomas Boltons factories and take the train to work, or do you just remember going about your day job and trains passing by the factory ? Do you recall beer being delivered to the Black Lion at Consall by train ? Where you involved with the renovation of the Canal when sand trains were still using the line ? Perhaps you worked at the papermill at Cheddleton, or the dye works at Leekbrook ?

Many people will have been involved with the railway over the years, directly on indirectly and it is those very people we would like to talk to.

The stories and tales we want may not just be restricted to the Churnet Valley Line, perhaps you worked at Stoke Shed, or shunted Longport yard ?

We really would like to hear from you, so we can arrange to meet up and discuss you stories and memories and gets these all recorded for future generations. Please message us, email us (enquiries@churnetvalleyrailway.co.uk) or call our office on 01538 360522.
