Originally acquired by the CVR from Ribble Rail, "No 6" found its new home in January 2008. However, it wasn't just any locomotive—it was purchased using funds left behind by the Roger Bennett, a dedicated volunteer within the Motive Power Department. In a fitting tribute, the locomotive was christened "Roger H Bennet" in honor of its benefactor.

The connection between Roger Bennett and the locomotive extended beyond mere ownership. Roger himself had spent time working at Peak Rail before joining the Churnet Valley Railway, further intertwining his legacy with the railways he loved.

Since its arrival in 2008, "Roger H Bennet" has proven to be a stalwart member of the CVR fleet—a hardworking and reliable locomotive, earning affection and recognition from railway enthusiasts and staff alike. However, as with any piece of machinery, the passage of time necessitates care and maintenance.

Recognizing the need for some tender loving care, CVR management decided that the beginning of the year was the perfect time to provide "Roger" with the attention it deserved. This included the installation of a refurbished radiator and general maintenance, alongside a fresh coat of paint to rejuvenate its appearance.

The refurbishment of "Roger H Bennet" serves not only as a practical measure to ensure its continued reliability but also as a poignant tribute to the enduring legacy of Roger Bennett. It symbolizes the enduring spirit of volunteerism and dedication that permeates the Churnet Valley Railway.

As "Roger H Bennet" emerges from its maintenance, gleaming with renewed vigor, it stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, remembrance, and the timeless allure of railways. You will be able to see “Roger” most days from the train as it works around Cheddleton Yard. Or if you are in the area pop in an see if you can catch him shunting the next bit of preservation history.
