Due to the unavailability of a diesel locomotive for our advertised Diesel Day on Saturday 15th October, we are forced to cancel the advertised services. However we will still be, and our resident Steam Locomotive 2944 "Hotspur" will deputise for the day providing 4x round trips along the CVR.

The month of October sees the CVR start to wind down in readiness for its shutdown period of November, however there is will still be a hive of activity to be found and keep the volunteers busy with a selection of special events running throughout the month.

The first weekend saw a new event being laid on, with Little Switzerland's first ever Oktoberfest offering a sample of Bavarian culture for all who visited.

Sunday 9th sees the monthly excursions to Ipstones along the Cauldon Branch, as 2944 "Hotspur" and 33102 "Sophie" combine to take passengers deep into the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands.

On Saturday 22nd we are remembering the Battle of Trafalgar, where the British Navy defeated the combined fleet from France and Spain at the cost of it's most famous naval recruit - Lord Nelson. Tickets for this evening meal are still available, with the menu and details of how to book available >here<.

This is followed on Sunday 23rd by the railway's traditional end-of-season finale, as Classic Cars descend on the valley to display along the line whilst enjoying live music at Froghall Station. Bookings are still open for those wishing to display a vehicle, and the event is not limited to age, type of vehicle or manufacturer.  Anything ranging from pre 30's cars, classic motor cycles, small commercials, sports cars, upto more modern cars are are welcome to attend, with recent visitors including a 90s London Cab and a Fifth Generation Mustang GT.

If you wish to bring a Classic Vehicle, please complete the >form< or contact our office.

Half Term then arrives and so Barney Buffers returns to the line, this time in his Halloween costume ready to haul the "Wizard Express" on Wednesday 26th with magicians and wizards to be found across the railway. Kids are encouraged to dress up in fancy dress for this Family Fun event.

The month then ends with the evening Ghost Train on Saturday 29th, as the living dead once again take over the railway for this spooky event. Tickets are available online now, so be sure not to miss out on this Halloween spectacular.
