You don’t have to like trains to volunteer at a steam railway. With less free time available it is getting ever so important to find your perfect distraction from the increasingly electronic world. Volunteering is a brilliant way to make friends, get some fresh air and to switch off whilst  learning  new skills.

With volunteering work in the west midlands there is nothing quite like the Churnet Valley Railway. These pages have been created for you to find out just why we are so interesting and  different. There will always be volunteering opportunities stoke on trent, but few take you into the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands. Winding its way from the valley floor with its steep hillsides, to the top of the hills adjacent to the Peak District, we have plenty of volunteering jobs stoke on trent. Only 20 minutes’ drive from Stoke-on-Trent City centre you will be able to find your department easily with the help of other staff!

You can join on your own or as a group or as a whole family. At some stations we have husband and wife teams looking after the gardens and tidying the station. On the train you could be punching tickets while the other half gives the green flag. If you are looking for that bit of freedom and wish to leave the other half at home then we can help there too. With Travelling ticket inspectors, Permanent way positions and Signalling Staff also required. Join as father son team or father daughter, it is important to get young people involved and learning at a young age. If with a parent or guardian we can accept children as young as 5 or 6 to work on the engines in the stations and with site maintenance. Watch as they grow with each new trade picked up and blossom into a strong independent character ready for the fierce world ahead of them.
All ages, all genders, all help is welcome, volunteering doesn’t have a label.
